A Letter from the Teacher
July 25, 2017
Dear Students and Parents,
I am excitedly preparing for our first face-to-face meeting in just a few short weeks. Meanwhile, allow me to briefly tell you a bit about myself.
I am what is known as a "Double Duke," having transplanted to the Valley two decades ago from outside of Philly to attend James Madison University. Thanks to my two sojourns as a student there, I am now a Virginia state licensed pre-k-12 teacher with undergraduate degrees in Theatre, English, and Secondary Education and an M.A. in English.
During my tenure in the Valley, I have taught theatre and English and directed theatrical productions at several area schools, notably Spotswood High School. Most recently, I served as the Theatre Education Advisor for the School of Theatre and Dance at James Madison University, where I taught theatre classes and trained future theatre teachers. I continue to supervise JMU students in teaching practicums. I also currently teach drama workshops for BRCC and the Explore More! Discovery Museum downtown.
Teaching is my lifelong vocation and a great source of joy in my life. I am thrilled to be joining the teaching faculty at Montevideo this year! I am counting on the knowledge and experience of my eighth graders to help me get quickly acclimated to my new school home.
See you soon!
Mrs. K
